My Story

While pursuing a career goal of Western Medicine, I was involved in two motor vehicle accidents which left me nearly incapacitated.  After 5 years of suffering from chronic pain and a loss of livelihood, I was referred to an acupuncturist as a “last hope.”  After a 4-day course of treatment, on the fourth day and for the first time in 5 years, I had no headaches and no pain anywhere in my body.  In less than a few months of weekly treatments, I fully recovered and more important, I got my life back.  My practitioner asked me to leave my pursuit of Western Medical studies and study with him as an apprentice to bring this form of healing to others…and in 1993 I did.  I undertook and completed a 5-year apprenticeship with 2 different Master Teachers in Florida, focusing first on Five-Element Acupuncture and mental health disorders followed by Japanese Meridian Therapy and physiological disorders.  Concurrent with this I completed my Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology and Cell Science at the University of Florida.

Upon moving to Pennsylvania, state law required me to return to graduate school for 3+ more years of study and thus I attended  Eastern School of Acupuncture and Traditional Medicine which incorporated both Western medical studies and Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.  Concurrent with my in-school training, I undertook further studies for 1-1/2 years in Boston with Kiiko Matsumoto, L.Ac., a world-renowned Japanese Acupuncture practitioner, focusing on the treatment of neurological disorders, Parkinson’s disease, and difficult diseases/disorders.

Wanting to further focus on diseases and disorders for which patients were traditionally told there was no hope, I went on to spend another 1-1/2 years in a clinical assistantship with Dr. Noel Nowicki, MD, a highly respected internist with 30 years’ experience and classically trained acupuncturist as well, also the former head of Kessler Rehabilitation Unit. Here I studied treatments for stroke, brain injury, neurological disorders, psychological disorders, pain management, and relief, auto-immune disorders … and witnessed patients of all ages living their lives again.

In 2014, I completed a 2-year post-baccalaureate certificate program in Chinese Herbal Medicine at Maryland University of Integrative Health followed by completion of my first doctoral degree in Oriental Medicine from MUIH in 2016.  In August of 2020, I completed my second doctoral degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (now Pacific College of Health and Sciences), specializing in an integrative approach to medicine.

I am also a NADA-Certified Acupuncture Detoxification specialist.

I believe in working hand in hand with my patients and their medical/mental health professionals to bring an integrated approach to patient care.   I am a walking testament to how acupuncture can help someone live their life again.
